Anyone who has ever adopted in a game session to place on a PC of a left-handed, knows what’s next: Total Chaos! And it drives right-handers among the beads of sweat on the forehead, if not the space bar as usual “jumping” but “Duck” is assigned. What we learn from this? Each player has his own key layout. SteelSeries sat on it and put his ZBoard series before – a system of interchangeable layouts.
More than six years later, there is a new edition of the series with the SteelSeries “Shift”. The shift has come not only in its external dimensions in width, but has also changed under the hood. The space is filled with their own multimedia buttons on the left.
Less obvious, but felt that the key pressure points have been adjusted. SteelSeries is referred to as “heat-spots”: Rarely used keys offer a greater pressure than other point. Thus, the popular WASD combo requires only 60g per key, while Enter demands 70g weight and require rich multimedia keys 85g. This also assumes the shortened stroke of the key is only 4mm, it must be depressed to produce a signal. In addition, the life of the silicone caps was increased, which regulate the resistance responsible for the contact of the keys.
But the clear market advantage is still in the unique interchangeability of the layouts: For every successful game you can buy your own layout, which keeps the learning curve is low and the fun of playing the maximum. The custom keyboard assignments are provided with the game’s own labels and arranged tactically optimal. Both upcoming missions, as well as the already available for the ZBoard series fit into the shift, a change which is to be completed easily.
In addition to a built-in USB hub and ports for headphones so Mikofon and leaves nothing to be desired.
