A few days ago we published the first pictures of the next generation of top-range video card from AMD, which has two GPU architecture. We refer to the Radeon HD 6990, a solution that combines two of the Cayman series GPUs on a single PCB.
The card will be made available on the market, presumably in the first quarter, positioning itself as a replacement for the Radeon HD 5970 solution always based on two-GPU architecture. The card uses a clamshell fan positioned in the center, according to the images, leaving the two GPUs on both sides so as to maximize the size of the radiators.

From the back, almost completely covered with a dissipating plate, detach the rear contacts for the two GPUs, the center of which is mounted ventla cooling. The power will be provided by a PCI Express 6-pin flanked by an 8-pin, then the solution of the Radeon HD 6970 single GPU.
In the rear panel connections we see a DVI connector and a 4 Mini Display Port, feature that suggests support Eyefinity technology up to a maximum of 5 screens for this video card. Is not shown in any of these images, the upper connector CrossFireX, whereby poteer beside two of these cards in parallel using up to 4 GPUs.
