AMD Radeon HD 6990

A few days ago on the internet have made their appearance the first pictures of a copy of AMD Radeon HD 6990 into the hands of Matt Skynner, AMD. A few days later began to circulate more photos with the first details of what will be the next flagship VGA AMD. The HD 6990 will have two GPU Cayman, 3072 stream processors and 4GB of memory with 2×256-bit interface.

The VGA has a surprisingly clean design and features a dual-slot cooler with a single central fan located between the two GPU, the heatsink seems to use the Vapor Chamber technology.

Looking at the pictures we can see that the card has a PCI-Express power connector 8-pin and one 6-pin, but it is possible that the final version could have two 8 pin connectors.

The card has a single connector for CrossfireX allows to build a quad-GPU configuration. On the back plate we can see a DVI port and four mini DisplayPort outputs.

The AMD HD 6990 should reach the market by the end of this quarter, at a price that could exceed $ 500.

  1. Thanks for the review. I’m _this close_ to buying a MBP 17?, fully decked out with SSD and 8GB RAM, but I just can’t pull the trigger with the expected new MBP refresh coming any day now.
