Intel has provided new information on the next generation Itanium processor family, known by the codename of Poulson. Itanium solutions currently available on the market in 9300 that family is the ninth generation of processor, are presented by Intel for mission critical applications on UNIX as well as solutions for mainframe, leaving the CPU Xeon 7500 in different variations for use in mission critical environments Windows, Linux and Solaris.
What will be the main technical elements of the Itanium Solutions Series Poulson? Intel will implement these in 8 core CPU, in combination with an amount of cache that will reach less than 54 Mbytes in some versions; extremely important role in this course will be played by the production technology, which will be the one to 32 nanometers.Obviously find optimizations in terms of bandwidth, both internal to the core and between cores and memory controller, so as to better exploit the increase in the number of cores. From a mechanical point of view the solutions will be compatible with the Poulson 9300 Itanium-based platforms currently on the market, simplifying the upgrade to owners of systems as well as OEMs.
