The first sample to 28 nm GPUs have already been produced. AMD confirms that the architecture of the Southern Islands will be announced later this year. The GPU Radeon HD 7000 should be on the market between September and October, then again the Sunnyvale chipmaker will give a lecture at the historic rival NVIDIA.

Thomas Seifert, interim CEO of AMD, during a recent conference call with financial analysts, said:

We are on time to bring to market by the end of another industry-leading GPU. We will be the first in the transition to 28 nanometers.

Seifert has denied the alleged production problems so that TSMC would meet during the construction of the first 28-nanometer chips. At this point, it seems that NVIDIA is the delay be charged back to a design error, as happened with the Fermi architecture.

To avoid reaching the market with few products, AMD has released orders from TSMC and GLOBALFOUNDRIES:

All our products are based on the process of this type bulk and provide greater flexibility to work with our two partners. With the introduction of 28-nanometer technology, our ability to manage risk through the ecosystem of partners will significantly increase the foundry.

The new architecture will help confirm the quality of work and AMD’s increasing market shares, as happened in the past with the presentation of the first DirectX 11 GPU to 40 nanometers.
